"Wow! Astounding!" – cried out John, my French co-traveler and friend, elbowing a
jab into my hip. His eyes gleamed with thrill. This is the aura of Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is a state in USA located in the north-central, Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the country. Known
for its unique flora and fauna situated few kilometres away from its major cities,
Wisconsin is also home to various historical architectures that boast about its
glorious culture and heritage.
I and John
started the trip from Hotel Indigo – Madison Downtown, a plush hotel in Madison
city, the capital of Wisconsin state. It was here where I met John Berger, a
French tourist from Paris, France.
I and John
planned to first visit Wisconsin Dells, a site known for its state-or-art
themed water parks with clear-water lakes. Adorned with majestic artificial sandstone
cliffs embracing plush resorts nestled amid Apricot trees, the environment is
ideal for a quite over-night stay at any of the resorts with your friends or
family.
Our next
visit was to the Door County, a finger shaped peninsula that separates
the Michigan Lake from the Green Bay, one of the largest freshwater estuaries
in Wisconsin. It is also home to the beautiful Waterfowls and various other
migratory birds. Waterfowls are aquatic birds frequently seen in Green Bay
during spring because of the diverse flora. If you a bird-lover, also plan a visit
to Sensiba Estate Wildlife Area, Barkhausan Waterfowl Preserve,
and the Peshtigo River State Wildlife Area, for bird-watching or photography. You may also spend some time in
the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge to look at the red-faced Waders, or
the Whooping Cranes. The Military Ridge Prairie Heritage Area, the Wyalusing
State Park and the Baxter's Hollow are also ideal to catch a glimpse
of the colorful singing birds.
Door County is also known
for the Apostle Island National Lakeshore situated along the coast of
the Norther Wisconsin. The island is a quintessential weekend family getaway
for the local people to enjoy hiking, adventure sports, and visit the zoo.
Wisconsin has
plenty in store for travelers to soak in art and history. The state is known
for its diverse culture and heritage that attract millions of tourists throughout
the year. On our way to Old World Wisconsin, we stepped down to look at
the Aldo Leopold Environmental History Trail that holds the remnants of
the Leopold family legacy. The place inspires you to further explore the
“green” building features of the Leopold Center. After a visit to
the Leopold Center, we took a cheery walk in the diverse landscape surrounding
the center to further explore the oak savanna, and the dry prairie land remnant
that overlooks the Wisconsin River Valley. The place also has
opportunities to experience adventure sports, such as hiking, skiing, or
snowshoeing. From here, we traveled towards the Wright Center that restores countless prodigies of the architectural masterpieces of Frank
Lloyd Wright, an American architect specifically known for his unique style to
create organic architectures.
A trip to
Wisconsin without a visit to the museums is incomplete. After a restless tour
of almost four hours, we pepped up to visit the EAA Air Venture Museum,
the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and the Milwaukee Art Museum. This
was not all. A walk into the House on the Rock to see its bizarre collection
or arts and the 2000 lights that shimmered amid grim darkness, was a memorable
experience for us.
After a one-night
stay at the prestigious Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel, we departed for
Madison city that marked the end of our journey.
