Waterfalls in Kerala

The roaring waterfalls, the insistent tap of a woodpecker, a sudden grunt of a wild boar, and the soft gurgle of a river bespeak for the unvarying life that follows in the hills of Kerala. Notwithstanding, when the day progresses, the effect enhances as other elements of nature step in. Even the human populace joins the ruffle – a reaper busy with his yarns, a native calls for his lost friend in the dark wilderness, or an abrupt croak of a sleeping frog. But all impasses as a tourist bus bellows in defying the silence, and the pleasing sounds seem to have hushed. This is a common clash where the noise of the city intruders rips apart the impalpable silence. In some parts of Kerala, however, the story seems different as they are still untouched. So explore it if you are daring.

If in Kerala, a voyage through the tropical forests is an absolute must. Here you can come across some of the loftiest cascades leaping from grievous dead-ends.

This travelogue guides you through your grueling expedition to discover some of the most beautiful cascades in Kerala.

Athirappalli and Vazhachal Waterfalls:
Not too far away from Kochi or Thrissur, these two waterfalls are prime sites in Kerala. While a train journey to Thrissur seems pretty ordinary, it is the exotic road trip to the Sholayer forest which is exciting. Along the edge of this forest lie Athirappalli and Vazhachal waterfalls, an awesome view for any first-time visitor.

The picturesque setting around the Athirappally waterfall makes this place a nice picnic spot. Standing at a height of 80 ft, the waterfall is on the Chalakkudy River, and is situated at the entrance of the Sholayar forest. Explore the forest as well if you wish. Another plummeting drop on the Chalakkudy River lies few kilometers away, named as the Vazhachal Waterfall. Only 5 km apart, these two waterfalls are popular tourist spots for their magnificence. Never miss to capture the piquant views of the rocky terrain and the flora of the Sholayar Forest – a degree more enchanting for onlookers.

The Cheeyappara and Valara Waterfalls:
Situated along the Kochi- Madurai Highway in Kerala, The Cheeyappara waterfall is an awesome place to lazy around. A halfway drive from Neriamangalam to Adimali, lands you at Cheeyappara Falls – a 7-step waterfall with the backdrop of the rocky terrain and the enthralling surrounding. A great place to trek, eat and click some amazing photographs, Cheeyappara Waterfall is worth a trip if you are in Kerala.

The journey doesn’t stop here. A further 10 km drive on the same road brings you at the Valara Waterfall chain, a beautiful picnic spot for youngsters and families alike. Snuggled amidst heavy verdure, the Valara Waterfalls are real feast for voyagers.

Chethalayam Waterfalls:
A 12 km drive from Sukthan Bathery and a toilsome 4-Km trek along the rugged hill roads, brings you face-face with the breathtaking Chethalayam Waterfalls – one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kerala. Ask the locals, and you will be astonished to know the tourism prospects of the place.

Also nearby is the Wayanada Wildlife Sanctuary. For those who have recently toured the sanctuary, Chethalayam is a relaxing refuge provided you love to trek. However, if you haven’t yet swept across the forests of Wayanada, make sure you keep it in your travel itinerary. Covering an area of 344 sq km, the sanctuary is home to elephants, sambhars, deers and almost everything you have in your wish list.

Soochipara Waterfalls:
Unlike Chethalayam Waterfalls, Soochipara is cuddled within dense equatorial forests. Apparently, an arduous walk through the thick jungle is unavoidable. Hire a guide if you are planning for this exciting quest. A 22 Km drive from the famous Hotel Green Gates and then an exhaustive – yet thrilling – 2-km walk through deep gorges, weaving roads and unruly pathways of the Wayanada equatorial wilderness drops you at Soochipara Waterfall. The roaring spurge of water, the obvious smell of the forest mud and the faint twitter of fellow tourists signal that destination is close. A 3-tier powerful waterfall, the Soochipara waterfall is also an excellent pursuit for rock-climbers. But if not keen for adventure, just treasure the ascetic beauty of nature.

Thommankuthu Waterfall:
Remotely tucked at one corner of the state, the Thommankuthu Waterfall often misses a visit by ignorant travelers. The wild and striking beauty of the site makes it a beautiful picnic spot as well. Small yet beautiful and wild, this waterfall is only 20 Km away from Thodupuzha city. Accommodation is easy in Thodupuzha and the food is delicious. For those in Cochin and planning a trip can avail buses at regular intervals.

Thusharagiri Waterfalls:
The Thusharagiri Waterfalls are cozily set among the stark hills of the Western Ghats. Thusharagiri - meaning ‘snow-capped hills’ – consists of 3 waterfalls situated on River Chalipuzza. The River further formed from two streams originating from the Western Ghats, diverges and cascades down as Thusharagiri waterfalls. Among the three, the Thenpara falls that plummets down from a height of 75 meters is the highest. The entire place is marvelous to saunter around, get stunning sunset photographs and cherish the solitude of the enchanting country-sides.

For further beauty, tread the plantation fields abundant in rubber, arecanut, pepper, ginger and spices – smell the sweetness of the air free from pollution and toxic.

For activities, Thusharagiri is a trekker’s delight. Wake up early, bag-pack stuffs and reach for the second waterfall to meet other trekkers buckling up to start. Next, set off for an exotic voyage through pristine woods, maneuver through gruesome hill tracks, cross river-paths and waterfalls, and watch rare birds and animals at play. Finally, a long strenuous climb brings you at Vythiri and Waynad – a place for tourists to see crocodile farms, a dam and value nature’s serenity and beauty.

Plan it or bag-pack suddenly – Kerala is worth the trip.

The Fortune Curry - (Team effort - Check the conclusion written by me)

It was a squally afternoon in the middle of April. The nature was breathing a sigh of relief after a prolonged spell of heat wave. So was Arjun, a mid-level technical writer, who had joined the Kolkata office of one of the leading MNCs in the IT sector only about a year back. He had just received a really encouraging note of appreciation from the client on the successful completion of his project. Eventually, it was his first project for the company. After having a cup of coffee at the cafeteria, Arjun entered his bay in a very relaxed mood which he really deserved after working so hard for the successful completion of his project. He could see that his supervisor, Nikhil, was having a discussion with one of his colleagues, Sonali, in the conference room. Arjun did not pay much heed to it and slowly moved back to his desk with an intention to complete whatever little bit he was left with for the day, as early as possible. At the back of his mind, he was planning for a short trip wit

What you see in a Cow?

An essay on Cow, as it might seem unusual unless written by a 10-years old kid, can be a topic of interest by those keenly interested in ecology, naturopathy, or even those specializing in diary products. However, an elaborate research on this topic opens up possibilities to explore how a Cow can be an object of interest for many not professionally inclined to this resourceful species. If you are an avid reader, a profound thinker, or a regular follower of current affairs, the word Cow may trigger thoughts ranging from political agendas, corruption to religious fanatism and spirituality. However, what is necessary to have is a perspective when you look at a Cow or any object per se. A perspective is a set of uncanny impressions inspired by the subject; spurred by conditioned beliefs, a situation, a defense mechanism, or a sudden flurry of thoughts mostly misconstrued as unreasonable. The perspectives here are personal viewpoints not influenced by any religion but interprets the teac
